Meet our Fellows

Dokyung (DK) Kim

International Arbitration & Legal-Tech

Dokyung Kim is a attorney (Korean Bar and Korean Patent Attorney) with over 23 years of experience in international arbitration/mediation, M&A, and finance. He spent 11 years as Head of Legal & Governance at Macquarie Asset Management Group (Korea), one of the world’s largest alternative asset managers, and is now a Partner at Jehyun Attorneys at Law leading international dispute resolution. He serves as a neutral on the panels of WIPO, KCAB International, AIAC, and SCCA, and is the only Korean holder of the IMI Certified Mediator/Mediation Advocate qualification. He also co-founded the Korea Mediation Institute. During the Fellowship, Dokyung developed the Kleros Alpha Dual-Award Hybrid Arbitration Model, an original institutional design responding to the principal critique that crowdsourced dispute resolution cannot constitute true “arbitration.” The model separates the adjudicatory function — vested in a sole arbitrator who drafts two complete, fully reasoned awards — from the fact-finding function, performed by Kleros jurors who select the award better supported by the evidence. Through comparative doctrinal analysis, he demonstrates the model’s compatibility with the New York Convention and major arbitration statutes, showing that crowd participation and professional adjudication can function as complements rather than substitutes.
